This is the email that Superintendent Jeffrey Rutzky sent out to the teachers of West Orange on the anniversary of the Sandy Hook shootings. Is this an appropriate comparison? If you don’t think so, call his office (973-669-5400) and tell him! Also, write to the school board that Mr. Rutzky is NOT your pick for reelection.

Subject: Sandy Hook Shooting
Good morning. While we are all dealing with daily challenges, whether it be the contract or personal issues with family or friends, let us not forget the horrific act that happened 4 years ago today at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Sometimes frustrations cause us to believe things are really bad until something like Sandy Hook happens and puts everything into perspective. I’m sure you would agree that everyone working at Sandy Hook Elementary School 4 years ago clearly keeps things in perspective.
With that, I want to thank you and ask that you think about what is really important. We will get through the struggles of the contract. Hang in there and keep plugging! I promise you that is happening at Sandy Hook Elementary School today.

His email is both disturbing and disrespectful. I also have to note that it is upsetting to see such poor writing and reasoning skills in someone who is supposed to be in charge of the district’s public education board.
